Depression Frankencense and Lavender Young Living Essential Oils

I was introduced to Young Living Essential oils several years ago and found them to be highly aromatic and pleasant to smell.

I was drawn to the aromas very quickly largely because I enjoy beautiful aromas but also because these oils, unlike other oils I have tried are organically grown and carefully extracted to maintain the natural essential oil profile of the natural plant.

It was quite an eye opener to me to realize what the natural plant oils actually smelled like. Our environment has in my view become so infiltrated with synthetic aromas that the body has become literally desensitized to these discordant aromas and we have lost our ability to truly discern what is Nature and what is not.

What I also learned from personal experience was the power of Young Living’s Therapeutic Essential Oils.

Now by “power” here I am referring to my direct experience of having used many of these oils either separately or in combination.

One combination in particular is that of Young Living Frankincense and Lavender Essential Oils.

I have over the years suffered from periods of anxiety and depression and in my search for natural treatments I struck upon the combination above.

After applying 1-2 drops of Young Living Frankincense and 1-2 drops of Young Living Lavender on my forehead and neck I felt the remarkable cool melting away of any symptoms of anxiety or depression. My spirits were also uplifted by the amazing and powerful smell of this combination together.

This has so impressed me that I now recommend it to my clients who need to find a way out of their darkness.

Essential Oils Shown To Be Effective In Managing Common And Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

In a recent and significant laboratory study on the efficacy of Essential Oils entitled:

“Inhibition by the essential oils of peppermint and spearmint of the growth of pathogenic bacteria”***

done by Imai H, Osawa K, Yasuda H, Hamashima H, Arai T, Sasatsu M. from the Functional Foods Section, Central Laboratory, Lotte Company Ltd, Urawa, Saitama, Japan and reported in 2001 they looked at the effects of the major constituents of the essential oils of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.), spearmint Mentha spicata L.) and Japanese mint (Mentha, arvensis L. on the profilferation of the following bacteria:

Helicobacter pylori, Salmonella enteritidis, Escherichia coli O157:H7, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin sensitive Staphylococccus aureus (MSSA)

Helicobacter pylori has been implicated as one of the common causes of stomach ulcers in the last several years and which has been treated with antibiotics.

Salmonella enteritidis, Escherichia coli O157:H7 are bacteria normally and commonly associated with gastroenteritis or commonly known as “stomach flu”.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin sensitive Staphylococccus aureus (MSSA) are common antibiotic resistant strains that are challenging the current armametarium of antibiotics that can lead to potentially more drug resistance.

Their results showed:

“The essential oils and the various constituents inhibited the proliferation of each strain in liquid culture in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, they exhibited bactericidal activity in phosphate-buffered saline. The antibacterial activities varied among the bacterial species tested but were almost the same against antibiotic-resistant and antibiotic-sensitive strains of Helicobacter pylori and S. aureus”

Their final conclusions were as follows:

“The essential oils and their constituents may be useful as potential antibacterial agents for inhibition of the growth of pathogens.”

This is intself is, in my view a dramatic finding which holds promise in the management and possible treatment of common and antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria that are a significant threat to individuals around the world.

Essential Oils Shown to Alleviate Sypmtoms Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

In an article published in the Journal of Gastroenterology in 1997** entitled:

“Enteric-coated peppermint-oil capsules in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome: a prospective, randomized trial”

researchers Liu JH, Chen GH, Yeh HZ, Huang CK, Poon SK from the Department of Internal Medicine, Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan reported interesting and encouraging results of the effects of the essential oils of peppermint in the treatment of Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS.

According to Wikepedia*** IBS is:

“A functional bowel disorder characterized by abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits that is not associated with any abnormalities on routine clinical testing”, and

IBS “is fairly common and makes up 20-50% of visits to gastroenterologists.”

The prognosis for patients with IBS is not fatal nor does it lead to the development of other serious bowel diseases.

However it is associated with chronic pain, discomfort, and other symptoms, work absenteeism, depression, social phobias, and other negative life effects. Often the symptoms appear to have or are exacerbated by emotional life stresses that then manifest in part in physical form.

For individuals with this problem it can become quite frustrating to live with a problem that can so readily cramp one’s goals and dreams.

In the quoted study the researchers shed some light on a solution that is not only simple; it is in my view empowering and all with next to none of the side-effects seen with common pharmaceutical agents.

Here is a summary of their study;

They did a well designed (i.e. a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled) clinical study with 110 subjects from an outpatient clinic.

To the experimental group they gave an enteric coated (i.e. in a capsule that would prevent the oil form irritating the upper gastrointestinal tract i.e. mouth, esophagus, and stomach) dosage of peppermint oil that was allowed to reach the large bowel where the problem was without degradation.

The control group received a placebo capsule.

Each group received their “treatment” 3 to 4 times a day about 30 minutes before meals for 1 month.

At the end of the study they found that:

1) Forty-one patients in the peppermint oil group (79%) experienced an alleviation of the severity of abdominal pain (29 were pain-free), compared to 21 patients (43%) with reduced pain (4 were pain-free in the control group.

2) Forty three in the peppermint oil group (83%) had less abdominal distension compared to 14 (29%) with reduced distension in the control group.

3) Forty three in the peppermint group (83%) had reduced stool frequency compared to 16 (32%) with reduced stool frequency.

4) Finally in the peppermint oil group they found that thirty eight in the peppermint group (73%) had fewer borborygmi (i.e. stomach growling sounds) and 11 (22%) with less flatulence.

Only one patient in the peppermint oil group has some upper gastrointestinal irritation as a result of chewing the capsule and releasing the oil.

The study reached a statistical significance of p
